Many professionals are becoming aware of the rapid emergence of new applications that incorporate emerging technologies like the Blockchain and Machine Learning. XReality applications that integrate Machine Learning and Blockchain technologies may set the stage for the next set of business killer apps.

XReality (XR) applications can be thought of as applications that include Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) technologies. In Charlie Fink’s Metaverse book, Stephanie Llamas defines XReality (XR), as encompassing VR, AR and MR and everything in between. This is a useful definition, as there are applications that have characteristics that do not fit conventional VR, AR or MR definitions.

XReality Application Emergence: Experiencing a “HS” Moment

In his book Life 3.0Max Tegmark describes computer scientist Stuart Russell experiencing a "Holy Shit" (HS) moment while watching Artificial Intelligence do something they were not expecting to experience for many years.

The last HS moment I experienced was sometime back in 1990’s when I finished surfing my first web page. I couldn’t shake the sense of excitement as I thought about the potential benefits and value that the Internet was poised to deliver to users worldwide.

I believe the emergence of Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality platforms and associated applications will revolutionize how many of us shop, learn, work and play, just as the Internet and Web has had a significant impact on the way we live, work and play.

If you're among those that often wish you’d taken more definitive actions when the Internet/Web ventured beyond The Tipping Point, here’s some good news.  Another massive opportunity is knocking at your door, inviting you to experience, dream and create the next big thing since the World Wide Web took hold of societies around the world.

To start your journey exploring Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality or Mixed Reality applications for business and professional use, see the following list of selected resources that I've curated to date.

See the end of this article for more information on how you can obtain access to a growing list of more comprehensive resources.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment whereby the objects that reside in the real-world are "augmented" by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory, and olfactory.

Platforms

Microsoft HoloLens. HoloLens has see-through holographic lenses that use an advanced optical projection system to generate multi-dimensional full-color holograms with very low latency so you can see holographic objects in your world.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality (VR) is an interactive computer-generated experience taking place within a simulated environment, that incorporates mainly auditory and visual, but also other types of sensory feedback like haptic. This immersive environment can be similar to the real world or it can be fantastical, creating an experience that is not possible in ordinary physical reality.

Virtual Worlds

High Fidelity.  From the creators of Second Life, High Fidelity has assembled a resonant group of conspirators, united by a shared conviction that it’s time to get busy and build the rich virtual worlds and experiences promised by fiction for decades.

Simulations

Entertainment

The Void. At THE VOID you will walk into new dimensions and experience worlds without limits. From fighting intergalactic wars on alien planets, to casting spells in the darkest of dungeons, THE VOID presents the Future of Entertainment.
