A little two years ago when I watched Stefan Sagmeister's TED Talk "The Power of Time Off". Watching his testimonial talk gave me an Aha moment -- one of those times in my life where I realized I uncovered the pearl concealed in life's oceans.
There's nothing quite like rising out of bed at sunrise on a Friday morning, knowing that in a couple of hours you'll be cycling along a scenic paved trail lined by beautiful mature trees, surrounded by plenty of open space with access to a small beach area that provides a picturesque view of Tampa Bay.
As part of a planned business trip to Tampa, Florida this month, I decided to experience personal and public transportation alternatives to travel. Uber provides a convenient way for business travelers to get around town without having to use public transportation or renting a car. Uber met my needs and exceeded my expectations.
The announcement of Denver's new 'A' Train service to Denver International Airport (DIA) brings many things to the mind for those who travel to the DIA. Avoiding the hazard of driving snow-packed roads, saving money on gas, and picking up family and friends at the RTD Light Rail station rather than driving to the airport are all things that the new 'A' Train service brings.
A large BBQ with hot charcoals from native woods was being fanned by two family members. Cooking on the grill were thinly-sliced beef steaks and other delicacies, including sliced plantains.
For the last several days, I've had the mosquito version of 5 O'Clock Charlie. Unlike his namesake however, Charlie the mosquito buzzes my ear as I sleep at precisely 6:30am every morning. However, at precisely 7:30am, an hour after Charlie's demise I plugged in my Extermin device to get rid of other pests buzzing around. This device is was worth the small investment for a good night's sleep.
Today marks the end of my sixth day in Armenia. Colombia. Jaqueline's family graciously has taken care of any need that I have had, including interpreting Spanish and teaching me about the practices, this is what people call home.
Our flight to Armenia via Spirit Airlines was uneventful. The second leg of the flight which departed Ft. Lauderdale was relaxing, as the Jet's interior air conditioning and comfortable seating provided a welcome relief to the hot, humid air that greeting us when we arrived in Florida.
It's 11pm July 2; I'm sitting in Denver International Airport, waiting for the plane that will take me on the first leg of my flight to Colombia, South America. With my laptop and an amazing assortment of other stuff packed into my trusty Brightline flight travel bag, I'm ready for a much overdue vacation.
As a creative, I understand the power that can come with a change of scenery, a break from the business-as-usual day-to-day routine, an opportunity to have significant blocks of uninterrupted time available to dream, think, and create through the process of deep work.

My beginnings as an Agile/Scrum practitioner came by way of a sudden change in how our team shared information about their respective projects, and how supervisors and managers were tasked to resolve issues that were identified by team members. As each of us had to report our planned next actions, there was a sense of urgency after the daily stand-up was over, to get cooking toward making progress on what we reported.
A confessed chronic List Keeper, Jim has decided to begin publishing his curated Free Reference Lists of informational and educational resources. Each month, news lists are added and updates are provided for existing Lists, so check back often.

A Renaissance Soul, Unleashed. I chose this phrase as the theme for my website, in honor of Margaret Lobenstine, who passed peacefully in 2015. Back in 2006, her seminal book, The Renaissance Soul, helped me form a framework for my life and career. I am forever indebted to Ms. Lobenstine for providing the perspective that has guided my life journey.
